About Us

Established to Advance Biomedical Excellence in Africa

The Institute of Biomedical Research was established in April 2012 under the headship of Professor Wilson Byarugaba to promote and develop the role of Biomedical research. Following his resignation, Dr. Marta Vicente Crespo became the next Director of the Lab from November 2012 to 2016. Subsequently, the leadership of the institute was placed under the former associate director of Post Graduate School, Dr. Monica Namayanja, between 2016 – 2018, and later given to Dr. David Kalenzi (former Director of Post Graduate School) between 2018 – 2019.

Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lab was headed by Ms. Sarah Gift Witto, the former Head of the Labs between 2019 – 2020.
