Among the plans of the Institute of Biomedical Research is to provide the following:
Establishing a NanoHealth Centre (NHC):
To foster research on nanotechnology and drug delivery, with the potential to attract grants and collaborations.
(A proposal has already been drafted by Dr. Ayman Waddad).
Development of Mxene-Based Nanocomposite Photocatalyst:
Using agricultural waste (e.g., banana/Matooke) for applications in water purification, wastewater treatment,
hydrogen fuel production, and solar cell development. Proposal to be co-developed with
Dr. Elhadi Arbab (Faculty of Science and Technology).
Establishment of Cell Culture Laboratories:
Focused on community and national research needs across KIU and other Ugandan institutions.
Creation of a Cross-Cutting Research Laboratory:
Supporting collaborations with professionals from Allied Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering, and Natural Sciences.
Equipment to include:
X-ray Diffraction (XRD) machine
Scanning Electron Microscope – Electron Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX)
